Responsibility and Commitment
Caring about our work and the impact it has is the foundation of everything we do at Touchstone Exploration Inc. Community involvement is a vital part of our activity in the locations where we are present and embodies our core corporate values and beliefs. We are committed to supporting causes that contribute positively to the community quality of life. At Touchstone, we believe that the support of environmental regulatory standards are fundamental to ensuring sustainable development and community well-being. It is important to us that residents of the communities we operate in are comfortable with our operations and are aware of the positive impacts of the initiatives we undertake. Such initiatives include investing in local youth through sponsorship and training, offering direct employment and contracts, providing opportunities for local service providers and partnering with organizations that do important community work.
TELUS World of Science – In 2011, a $5 million contribution was made to the Energy & Innovation gallery in the New Science Centre by the Petro Group of Companies which includes Touchstone. We are truly honored to be associated with the TELUS World of Science as their ideas of scientific innovation, sustainable community development and family reflect are at the heart of our core corporate values and beliefs. The Energy and Innovation Gallery is a place for people of all ages and abilities to embrace and advance their desire to explore and discover the way energy is generated, transformed and used in our daily lives. We encourage all Calgarians to take the opportunity to get out and experiment and learn about the properties and benefits of oil based energy.
Youth Apprentice Program – Both education and hands-on experience are central to innovation and sustainable development. We are proud to support the Youth Apprentice program in Lac La Biche. This program provides students, from grades 7 through 12, with practical experience in the electrical, pipefitting, plumbing and carpentry trades. With the anticipation that these trades will be in high demand in the near future, it is important that our youth has practical experience to enhance their future career opportunities.
Employee of the Quarter Award – The quality of our work is another one of our core values at Touchstone. Individuals are nominated for this award by their peers based on performance, dedication and perseverance in the work that they do. Each quarter, an exemplary employee is elected and receives the opportunity to donate $3,000 TT to the charity of their choice. Previous award recipients include a rig-worker helping to sponsor a program at his local church, a secretary providing new supplies to her daughter’s school and a heavy equipment operator proudly supporting his local library. This program is an ongoing commitment by our company to help our employees give back to their communities in ways that are meaningful to them.
Community Drives - During the holidays, Touchstone organizes and hosts a number of community based food and clothing drives for families in the Fyzabad region. In 2013, we were able to distribute 100 hampers amongst ten schools. 15 grocery hampers and clothing items were directly given to families in the local communities who were in dire need of support. The success of this initiative proved to be incredibly rewarding for all parties involved as we were able to afford the less fortunate members of our local community the chance to truly enjoy the holiday season the way they deserve.
Orphanage Assistance – Within the Trinidad Communities that Touchstone operates there are a number of orphanages that require support. Being that one of Touchstone’s initiatives is community well-being and the investment in our local youth, we decided that providing support for a local orphanage would be a great opportunity to enhance the lives of the children that are there. On a monthly basis, Touchstone donates groceries to an orphanage that works with abandoned, sick and disabled children. We believe that every child has the right and ability to realize their potential, regardless of their situation or living conditions if given the opportunity, support and resources. Thanks to all the staff at Touchstone who assist in gathering and distribution of the groceries every month.
Youth Recreation - Touchstone is a proud sponsor of the Fyzabad United Football Club. Touchstone supported the club by funding the sourcing of 49 new jerseys and supporting the 13 week program held by the sports club that includes everything from training sessions, to first aid and personal safety lectures. Teamwork is something that we highly value and we take great pleasure in supporting the opportunity to encourage team work and physical activity for the children of the community.
Environmental Beach Clean-up - On September 21, 2013, Touchstone partnered with the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the Heroes Foundation, to take part in the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Clean-up. The event was recorded as the largest global volunteer effort to clean up waterways and the ocean. The protection of the environment is central to our work at Touchstone and we look forward to continue to take part in events that work towards restoring the coastline of Trinidad and Tobago.
Touchstone is pleased to sponsor Olympic Silver medalist Patrick Chan. As a world renowned figure skater, we are honored to have him represent Canada as he embodies the importance Touchstone puts on hard work and perseverance.
